Soraya High School
At the Soraya High School, HAWP provided transportation to the school and one meal per day for the young girls. At the Women’s Center connected to the high school, women and girls alike created beautiful handmade crafts, such as jewelry, shawls, blouses and clothing. HAWP purchased the raw materials. In Houston, small fundraisers and teas where these crafts were sold brought in good profit. One hundred percent of the proceeds were used to support the Women’s Center projects to purchase more supplies and make more crafts. By learning such skills, the women began their journey of learning valuable trades that will help provide an income for them and their families.
By providing basic necessities and education, HAWP created a sense of power and normalcy in the lives of these women and children while demonstrating the goodwill of the American people. HAWP is helping these women and children help themselves because ultimately they change their own world. Education is the key!
